Dr Who Blocks

I have been very remiss with my Blog posts of late!!
We had a lovely holiday in Hawaii back in September for 2 weeks and have returned home to renovations to the back of our house. All the windows are being replaced, walls knocked out and new kitchen, laundry and decking installed. It has certainly reduced my time in the sewing room!!!
Here are the latest Dr Who blocks - some I made before our holiday, and the last 2 since the renovations have been in full swing.
I have lots of sewing projects waiting for me to find a quiet afternoon to myself - haha!!

Quilt Around the World Bee II

I haven't updated on my Around the World Quilt Bee for a while.
2 of the 25 girls have had all their 25 blocks return home, some are nearly there and a couple of us have our blocks stalled in New York!! Obviously they are having a great time, but think it is time they headed home to mamma!!!
I have recently added blocks for 4 of the girls in the group.

Here is the one I made for Mary. I was a bit worried about the colours in this one as I made it before I saw the rest of the blocks and thought my pinks might not work.
However, once I placed all the blocks together I think it works in quite well.

All 16 of Mary's blocks together.

Next was Anita's block. Anita is making a 'neighbourhood' quilt and asked us to make something representing where we live. As there are only 3 of us living in Australia, I decided to include a kangaroo, which is a bit of artistic licence - we don't really have a pet one. (We actually have a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel!!!!) Anyway, the house and the fountain are really there.

All 18 of Anita's blocks, making up a fabulous neighbourhood.

Marian's quilt is focusing on yellow, aqua, white and grey. The blocks can be any design. I saw this block on Flickr and thought it would be fun to add one to this group in blue and yellow.

Marian's 20 blocks look very pretty with all the different designs.

This block is for Monica, who asked for stars or pinwheels in bright colours. I just had to use this chevron fabric and added the white star in the centre.

21 blocks for Monica looking really bright and cheerful.

Only 3 more coming my way before mine (hopefully) return home.

August update!

I have been busy with catching up with quilting projects the last couple of weeks. We are about to start a biggish renovation on our house so decided to get as much sewing done as I could before the plaster dust begins in ernest!!

My first job was to complete my red and aqua quilt from the bee I did last year. After joining the blocks together with blue sashing and red posts I used a lot of leftover fabric to create the back, then machine quilted the block edges, put the binding on, then hand quilted each block to compliment the circles.

Badwolf

Here is the next in the Dr Who series!! Brick or pavement fabric would have no doubt been a better idea for the background, but the cosmic fabric I ordered from the US had just arrived and I was dying to use it. I am happy with the result!!

Dr Who again!!

Here is the fourth block in the Dr.Who.Along. The SS Madame de Pompadour. I have made a couple of slip ups with my colours in the paper piecing process but not really keen to do it all again!!!
I have just bought 3 metres of space like fabric in different styles to use for this bee, so look out for more of these fun blocks.............
Cheers!

Dr Who - addictive!!

Well now..........what to do now Dear Jane is finished?
I have completed 2 more blocks from the Dr Who Along.
For those 'Whovians' out there you will be familiar with these characters. I have to do a bit of internet surfing each time I have to do one of these blocks and I am learning a lot about Dr Who I didn't remember from the 70's and 80's..........

Block 2 - Time Lord

Block 3 - K-9

I must say I am getting so into this whole thing I might have to go out and buy the latest Dr Who series on DVD!!!!

Liberty Blue Jane top completed!!!!!

Well here it is 17th June and I have achieved my goal before the end of June!!!! Yes, the Liberty Blue Dear Jane quilt top is completed!!!! The first square, A-5 - Cathie's Campfire, was completed on 5th April 2011, and I finished the embroidery on the Bottom Right Corner last night, 16th June 2013.
The journey however does not end here as once I have decided on a backing fabric I will have to baste and then hand quilt it! That could take me another 2 years or so!!!
If anyone has any ideas on what fabric to use for the backing I would appreciate it, although I should probably use 'Liberty'. I am assuming 2 widths should be enough.
